Commonly Used Words/Phrases

Pack- All age groups of scouts. Generally covers grades kindergarten thru fourth/early fifth.

Pack Meeting- A meeting held every month or so. Led by the Cubmaster. All scouts and scout families are invited to these. At these meetings, there will be announcements, achievements rewarded, and a fun activity. A great time to get to know scouts of other ages. Scouts arrive in Class A uniform. 6:30- 8:00 Thursdays.

Den- Scouts of the same grade/age.

Den Meeting- Held weekly, meetings are led by the Den Leader and will include instruction, activities and outings that are required to meet badge requirements. This is when scouts will really bond with the other people in their age group. Scouts arrive in Class A Uniform unless told otherwise by den leader. 6:30- 8:00 Thursdays.

FIPS- Fort Island Primary School. All pack meetings and nearly all den meetings will be held here. Pack meetings will be in the gym. At den meetings, we meet at the school but in different rooms depending on activities. Your den leader will let you know where to meet for each meeting.

Class A Uniform- Cub Scout uniform with collar and patches, neckerchief, belt (with loops on it, as earned), and jeans or khaki pants.

Class B Uniform- Pack tee shirt and shorts or pants. This is usually worn when we know we’ll be getting messy or sweaty or playing hard... which is a lot in Cub Scouts!

Bobcat- Every scout (starting with Tigers) must first earn the Bobcat badge. This can be done at any level, whenever the scout joins. Doing this, they will learn the basic tenets of Cub Scouting. The Den Leader will work with the scout to earn their Bobcat.

Committee- The group of adults who “run” the pack. Any adult that is interested in contributing is more than welcome to join the committee.

Committee/Parent Meetings- Held monthly (or as close to as we can manage) to plan upcoming events for the pack, manage the finances, make decisions. Every parent is welcome to come to these meetings. Scouts are not involved but are more than welcome to come! Once it is set, all parents will get a schedule of these meetings.

Council & District- Each pack is part of a bigger geographical organization within the BSA. We are in the Soaring Eagle District which is within the Great Trail Council.
